In His Steps Book Review

"(Sheldon, Chapter 1) By introducing the question in this way Sheldon directly asks the reader to reexamine their life and not just say the words but back them up as well. Then later the preacher says: "I want volunteers from the First Church who will pledge themselves, earnestly and honestly for an entire year, not to do anything without first asking the question, 'What would Jesus do?' And after asking that question, each one will follow Jesus as exactly as he knows how, no matter what the result may be. I will of course include myself in this company of volunteers, and shall take for granted that my church here will not be surprised at my future conduct, as based upon this standard of action, and will not oppose whatever is done if they think Christ would do it."(Sheldon, Chapter 2) This question presented by the preacher helps Sheldon to begin illustrate how the reader can change. It makes the reader feel as if they want to say that they will be a volunteer and lead their life after Jesus. In general Sheldon by asking the question what would Jesus do just wanted the audience to look at their life and change it to follow god and not their own desires. .
Through out In His Steps Charles Sheldon makes plenty of 3life situations as to how to follow in Jesus" footsteps. There is one problem with his examples, Sheldon only gives examples as how to follow god with the big decisions in life and very rarely with little everyday ones. By doing this Charles makes his inspirational story of following Jesus just another impossible task when really it isn't that hard as he makes it seems. It is very hard to draw a tree when you only have been shown how to draw the trunk and not the leaves. The little things in life can e just as hard as the big ones and it would have been great if Sheldon would've exemplified the a little more. "I have decided that the Sunday morning edition of the NEWS shall be discontinued after next Sunday's issue.
