             I chose this book because world war two era is very fascinating tome.
             Period of history has many interesting aspects. Also my grandparents were apart of this period in history and lived through many of the hardships described in this book. .
             .
             The story letters from Rifka is about a Jewish family who has decided to leave Russia to go to America. They made this decision because they are Jews and if they stay in Russia the Nazi's will kill them. On there journey to America they have to overcome many obstacles in their way such as Typhus, the way they. I find that the different doctors upon entry into the different countries checked this. They had to avoid being seen by the soldiers so that they could escape without being caught. When they finally think they have reached freedom everyone but Rifka is allowed to leave the country because she has ringworm. She is sent to live with a family in Belgium where she gets treatment for the ringworm. The family she stays with is very nice to her. They treat her like a daughter. When her ringworm clears up she is sent to Ellis Island. She has to stay in a ward for three weeks. Her family comes to get her and it is a joyous reunion.
             .
             I have chosen Rifka as my favorite character because she is a strong and courageous girl.
             She also got what she wanted at the end of the story. She was reunited with her family in America.
             Opinion .
             I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to a friend.
