Treasure Mountain

As I mentioned previously, the author writes in a very direct manner. No doubt is left in the readers" minds that the character is seeking vengeance. He uses the wrongful death of his father to justify any action which he plans on taking which would cause harm to those who he feel is guilty.
The lack of symbolism allows for fast reading, which is needed to keep you with the adventure in teh story. The gold is the treasure, which they seek. I feel L"Aour purposely writes in this straightforward manner. This book, along with his many other works, are filled with action. There is little room to allow for one's own interpretation. The facts as the author would have you know them are spelled out quite clearly throughout the book.
The main theme of Treasure Mountain is revenge, an emotion to which the vast majority of people can relate. Revenge is something most of us have been known to seek at different points in our life. On a personal level, there are those who are willing to undermine someone for the slightest amount of satisfaction. They seek revenge for petty differences and slights. Revenge can be sought for what someone perceives was done wrongly to them. It can also be sought due to jealousy. What one person has or doesn't have shouldn't come into play. There are those who will take revenge on the innocent to make them feel better should that person have more material possessions, more friends, or is smarter than they.
Revenge does not necessary make itself clearly visible. Sometimes it is done with the slightest innuendo in a conversation. It can play itself out in the repeated reminders to others o someone's weaknesses and faults. It slowly deteriorates a person's reputation or sense of confidence-all the while in a very subtle fashion.
The revenge sought by Orrin Sackett was much more clear cut. He was going to take the lives of those he felt responsible for murdering his father. This type of revenge also exists in our society today.
