Martin Luther King


            August 28, 1968 Martin Luther King Jr. marched to the Lincoln memorial to talk about freedom exactly 100 years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed by Abraham Lincoln. He was there to talk about how the Negro's still weren't given the rights. Martin Luther King Jr. emphasized his point by using florid speech. "We are still saddened by the manifolds if segregation." The pursose of the speech is to expose the reality that despite all the effort put forth by the Emancipation Proclamation, nothing has changed in 100 years. He continues by saying that the people came to our nations capitol to claim whats rightfully theres. "We have come to our nations capitol to cash a check. When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir." He talks about how American has given its people a bad check, a check with "insufficient funds." He states how he will not settle to believe that American would write a bad check to its own people, and that's the reason that they"re, to check the balance of the account. He tells them how 1963 is not an end, that it's a new beginning. He tells his listeners that they need to stay strong through these times of injustice. That they need to be on the best behaviors and not get restless and "drink from the cup of bitterness and hatred to satisfy there thirst for freedom." He goes on to tell how they as a people will never be satisfied while there is police brutality going on towards black people, and blacks are living in ghettos they cant get out of and residing in towns that post signs "whites only". He tells his listeners that hes glad they all made it to the rally, despite where they had just been. "I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed".
