Goals I would Like to achieve as a student at UOP

as a Student at the University of Phoenix

I have many goals to achieve, as a student, and the University of Phoenix is but one stop on the long road to my ultimate goals. I ask myself what is life without purpose? We must make goals so that we know in which direction to go. In the words of Yogi Berra, “You got to be careful if you don’t know where you’re going because you might not get there”.(cited in www.wisdomquotes.com, 2002)

Getting a college degree has been a goal of mine since early childhood. Everything I have done thus far has been done with this goal in mind. I have broken through many barriers and accomplished many goals in the process of getting back to college. Over the next few years, more goals will be discovered and achieved as I go through the final stages of completing my degree. I look forward to these years with a mixture of emotions. The strongest emotion of all being, desire to keep going forward and learning more every day. As said by Aristotle, “All human beings, by nature, desire to know.”(Gross, p.5)

In order to do my best in school, I will have to first work on my presentation skills. I believe that a good presentation of the material can make all the difference in the world. Capturing the readers interest and holding them there is the only way you will be able to express your ideas to the intended audience. For this reason, I must learn how to effectively lead my audience to the conclusion. With the conclusion, you must leave a lasting impression that keeps the reader thinking long after you are done. So, I have discovered that my first goal must be to master the art of presentation.

In the beginning of this paper, I mentioned that the University of Phoenix was but one stop on my journey to my ultimate goal. With what I have said, so far, you may think this goal is to become a well-known leader in my chosen field of study, and you would be close but not right. Everything I strive for in life will make possible the achievement of one goal, to increase self awareness and build confidence in my ability to keep growing with the constant changes of life. Knowing oneself is the first step to making our dreams come true. With dedication, desire and persistence, we can make anything happen.
