History of the Atomic Bomb

Although many people in the World think they know everything there is to know about the atomic bomb, many of them only recognize the surface of what there is to know. A very long and interesting history goes along with this weapon of mass destruction. I only knew so much about this weapon, until I began to read different texts about this device. I have learned that there were a number of creators of this war weapon, not just two or three scientists. The creation of the atomic bomb is one of the most important historical events in the field of weaponry. .
On the morning of August 6th, 1945, an American bomber flying over the Japanese city of Hiroshima dropped a bomb. According to author David Killingray (The Atom Bomb), "the bomb descended by parachute to a height of 600 meters, then exploded" (2). Three days after this event, the United States dropped another bomb on the city of Nagasaki. In these two explosions, over 120,000 people died. A few days later, the Japanese surrendered and World War II with the U.S and Japan was over. What type of weapon was this? How was it created? Who created it? Why was it created? Apparently it was a weapon of mass destruction, of which it could kill thousands of people in a matter of seconds. There had been no weapon like this ever created before. .
After much time and money had been devoted towards the bomb, the bomb had been completed. On July 16, 1945, after successful testing, the bomb received the name "Atomic bomb." This creation is the most powerful and destructive weapon that has ever been seen. Every other weapon created to this day will never defeat the destructiveness of this newly created weapon.
In the early twentieth century several important discoveries were made. French scientists had discovered that uranium and another element called radium, gave off a kind of energy called radioactivity. Between the years 1910 and 1940, numerous scientists in industrial countries including Germany, France, Britain, Denmark, Italy, and the United States had made discoveries of what substances the atom consisted of.
