Is Socioeconomic Inequality Increasing in America?
The economy is changing every day. People are receiving more and more opportunities to be able to be successful. There are many aspects that are creating some inequality among people in America, as well as creating more benefits for all. People today are making more money than they did twenty years ago. But is this true for all? How many people are doing very well and how many are doing poorly? Some say the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. Is Socioeconomic inequality increasing in America?
America is the land of opportunity. There are many independent businesses rising every day. New jobs are allowing the chance for many people to get a good job. People with dis abilities are now receiving more opportunities to get a good paying job. More and more people are receiving a good quality education. Some say there is a big inequality among the rich and the poor. Many are not looking closely at the statistics. The statistics are saying that the gap between the rich and the poor is widening. There are many different attributes that are allowing this to occur. The rise of single parent homes is one contributing factor. Many people are having children young and are forced to work in lower paying jobs because of less education. Even though it does seem as if the poorer part of the population is increasing, the poverty level is decreasing. " The proportion of Americans in poverty now stand at twelve percent; in the 1950s it was twenty two percent. Â (Economist, 2003) There are many benefits that American are able to receive. These benefits not only reach rich or middle class, but the lower class as well. The government has been trying to improve the lives of those who are poor. Welfare programs have been established.
