Nora responds to Torvald’s concerns by saying that money is not important and that his new job as a bank manager will mean they will have enough money, and if not they can always borrow until his next pay as his salary doesn’t start until April. But Nora seems to be upset so he gives her more money to spend. He then asks her what she wants and she tells him that he could give her money and when she knows what she wants she can buy it herself. They begin to catch up and talk about their lives including the death of Mrs. Linde’s husband. Nora is quick to let Mrs.Linde know about Trovald’s new Job success and how they will soon have a lot of money. She also tells her how Trovald was very ill and had to go away to a hotter climate in order to get better and how they got the money from her father just before he died. We later know that Mrs.Linde married her husband without being in love with him; she says how she has a bedridden mother and two brothers to take care of and didn’t know how to say no. when her husband dies his business went bankrupt and she was left with nothing and had to makes ends meet. Now her mother has passed away and her brothers have found jobs. Now she is free to make her own life. As she has heard of Helmer’s job she was hoping to get a job through him. Nora is sympathetic and tells her she will do her best in asking Helmer. When Mrs.Linde makes an off-hand remark about how little Nora has had to worry about in life, calling Nora a child. Nora is offended and tells her big secret. Despite what she had told her about getting the money from her father to save Trovald’s life, it was actually her that borrowed the money secretly and Trovald doesn’t know and he will never be told. Mrs.Linde re-enters finding Nora looking pale, when Nora points out the letter to her she understands that it was Krogstad that had given her the money. Mrs.Linde tells Nora she will try and persuade Krogstad to take the letter back and leave just before Trovald comes into the room. He and Dr Rank come in expecting to see Nora changing into her dress. She seems worn out so Torvald asks her if she had been practising her dancing but she sees that this is how she can distract him and tells him that she needs his help. Just before she is about to begin he goes to the letter box to check for letters. Nora is afraid and started playing the first bars of the Tarantella. She begins to dance and Torvald notices that she had forgotten everything that he had taught her. She tells him that he must pay all attention to her and nothing but her especial any letters. He begins to understand that she is trying to hide that fact there is a letter from Krogstad waiting for him. Dr Rank tells him that he shouldn’t contradict her so Krogstad doesn’t. He promises to work with her until the end of the ball but after that he will be free. They go off for dinner leaving Nora, Mrs.Linde appears and tells Nora that Krogstad has left town until the next evening. Left alone Nora reveals she will only have thirty one hours to live. But her reaction to krogstad finally dropping the letter in the letter box is the climax of the play. Before this climax Nora doubts that her world can be shattered, she even goes as far as thinking of running away or committing suicide. The ball temporally takes her mind of this matter she is able to dance and sing in the ball like a lovely creature.
