“Think about, the way you think.” Is this even possible? These were my thoughts right from the start. Throughout my life I have been writing, but the question’s I need to apply to understand my writing are why, how, and what motivates me? To understand how I write and how I think, I will analyze my writing process of Major Paper #2. Starting from the beginning of the process, I will analyze everything from the events which prompted me to write through the steps to my finished product. In an attempt to understand my particular style and what factors contribute to my writing. Procrastination has taken over my life, and I’m surprised that I ever get anything done at all. I’m sure the nightly drinking also doesn’t help my motivation to get my work done either. However, when I write the things I have to write for my classes I find that it takes me a while to actually sit down and write my paper. For Major Paper #2, I remember having absolutely no idea what to write on from the start. Being immensely confused, I found most comfortable just trying to forget that it’s due. Once realization sets in, usually occurring at the hookah bar, I usually get a nagging feeling in the back of my head and try to shake
I’ve found that most of the time my weaknesses in writing includes two major dilemmas. Major Paper #2 was no exception, as usual the first problem I experienced was the introduction to the paper and the second was trying to keep on task even through distractions. To me, the introduction is the hardest part, because it gives the paper its strength and gives the reader an idea of what will be covered. My mind has to be totally clear for it to put words in correct order. Sometimes I even resort to cleaning and laying all my information out in front of me in order for my brain to function properly. When I begin to actually write and think, the hardest part is filtering everything and building what I actually want to say. I find that music helps me get in a rhythm and depending on my mood it will range from straightedge-hardcore, to reggae, and even techno. The music seems to inspire my creative side and helps my ideas “flow,” from one to the next. For a while, with this paper, I am able to get a decent amount of writing done. Until I get distracted by a phone call or a roommate, or get stuck and don’t know what else to say. When this happens, I usually resort to playing my guitar. This “break” can last anywhere from 5 min to an hour or more, sparking my motivation to write more. If this doesn’t help a cigarette will, and at least a few more ideas will be put on the paper. it off. I finally stumbled upon the topic I wanted to analyze when I was in a stoned haze watching my favorite movie by Pink Floyd, The Wall. From the first time I watched it I noticed the different symbols and images presented. Nonetheless, I was never actually able to critically analyze something on that deep of a level. I picked a particular scene in the movie where one of Pink Floyd’s most popular songs is played, “Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2).” I had originally picked the song, consciously for its guitar solo, but not until I watched The Wall did I realize the true symbolism it presented. With help I was able to make my topic range more concise. Otherwise, I would’ve found myself writing a confusing paper with multiple issues being addressed. Instead, I was able to form a decent thesis to go off of and feel satisfied for at least a few more days. Looking at all the events I go through makes me realize I waste a lot of my time thinking about doing it when I
