A world in which happiness exists everyday is impossible, as far as “real” happiness that is. In Brave New World, Aldous Huxley showed a society where happiness exists everyday through the most simplistic and superficial ways of attaining that happiness. This society lacked major fundamentals needed in life: strong emotions, knowledge, striving for big goals, individuality, freedom, love, and many more. Instead this society was divided in castes, in which everyone’s duty was generally the same, and their main pleasure was sex and soma. I can not say that is utopia for me; however I would go to the Brave New World for a week’s vacation to see what it was like. Although I know I would soon realize what I was missing and retreat back to fulfill my “bona fide” happiness.

There are many characteristics that make up the Brave New World, some of those include: control, conditioning, basic pleasures (mostly physical), drugs, and lack of strong emotions (love, friendships, etc...). Control is the main aspect in this new world, everything you do is controlled in some way by the Director or government. No one of this society realizes just how much they are being controlled, because they were conditioned to feel happy. The totalitarian society Huxley creates depends on conditioning significantly. Every human is brought up in state conditioning centers in which they receive biological and psychological conditioning. Hypnopaedia is a method the state uses where the child will be conditioned in his sleep to feel happy and to know his duty in the State.
