King Arthur
During the course of this research paper, different aspects of the life of King Arthur will be discussed. King Arthur was a legendary king of ancient times. Although, some people consider King Arthur to be just a myth, many historians believe that he actually existed. This paper will discuss Arthur’s coming to be king, his famous Round Table, and the historical Camelot. The heroic tales of Arthur’s life and the adventures of his brave knights will also be discussed. King Arthur was the son of King Uther Pendragon and Lady Ygraine. After Arthur’s birth, he is given to a man named Hector. He was raised by Hector along with his step brother, Kay. None of them knew of Arthur’s royal heritage. Arthur grew up as a commoner and a squire for his older brother. After King Uther dies without an heir to the throne, the barons and nobles of Britain must choose a leader. They believe that God embedded a sword in a stone and only the rightful king will be able to pull it out. This is when the myth of King Arthur pulling the magic sword, Excalibur, from the stone to become the king takes place. According to the legend, Arthur was sent to retrieve his brother’s sword but when he could not find it he spotted the sword in th

After Arthur told him, a crowd gathered around and wanted to see the little boy draw the sword from the stone. After it was witnessed by everyone, Arthur was declared the King of Britain. The Knights of the Round Table are very adventurous. They participate in many quests and adventures. The most famous is the quest for the Holy Grail. The Holy Grail is the cup that Jesus drank from at the Last Supper. It is unknown of the reason the knights wanted the grail so badly but it displeased Arthur tremendously. All of the best knights were gone for long periods of time and left Camelot unguarded. Sir Lancelot soon became Arthur’s favorite of the knights because of his outstanding bravery. Sir Lancelot didn’t feel the same way about Arthur and had an affair with the queen. They soon fell in love. Their forbidden love is one of the major causes for the eventual collapse of Arthur’s kingdom. Very few actual facts are known about the medieval king. The myth of how he became king is most probably a fictional story. Most of the tales of King Arthur are fictional, but scholars and historians are convinced that there is some truth to the stories. An outline of Arthur’s life was given by Geoffrey of Monmouth during the twelfth century. Geoffrey’s outline is the basis for most of the modern publications of King Arthur’s life.
