New England Colonies

I believe that New England and the Chesapeake colonies developed differently for a couple of different reasons. One reason is the type of people that went to each area, the rules made by each area, and what ideals and reasoning of the people when it came to gold. .
The New England colonies were more family oriented. Most people who went to this area belonged to a family. Families usually were more about working together, for the benefit of the family. If you look at document B it shows that families came to New England. Families have different morals and ideals than do single people. They will make rules and choices that will benefit everyone.
The Chesapeake colony is where more single men and women went. This can be seen from looking at document C. Another reason the development was so different in this area was because the majority of people that came to this area were white, single males. These men where looking for riches and land. Rules made in these areas would be made to benefit themselves personally. There was less organization in these areas because people were concerned about themselves. All the men were concerned about was gold and they did not care about much about anything else, so they were not prepared for winter and the conditions in America. As a result, many died of disease and starvation. In document D it shows that many people were concerned more about getting wealthy then anything else.
Protection was also a problem for the colonies. Many people from the Chesapeake area wanted to protect their personal items, such as land, and houses, more so than protecting the colony as a whole from invasion. People from the New England colonies were more willing to help because they wanted to protect their families, even though they were uneasy about going to help the colony as well.
These are just some of the differences that I have taken from the documents. There were many visible differences.
