Slavery

Slavery with its all truth concerning the concept racism in relation with IR and Sociology…

“Blacks has the same intelligence as orangutans” claimed David Hume*, a great philosopher. The inferiority concept just lies in front of their eyes and by these kind of statements the ideas are injected to our brains maybe without even questioning. African-American case was like this, too. The inferior ‘labeled’ black skin! The racism concept occurs from this view, the view that because we are similari they are different. But of course all these inter-relations are not bounded to a specific territory. The relations between races affect the human nature and human’s social life so that problems become humen being problems instead of territory ones, for example human rights are discussed world wide or maybe universe wide (if we consider the aspect that human beings started to live in space, too). For instance, in international arena, some people are working, some are making others to work; some behave superior, some is dicriminated… and the system cycles in this way, dialectical progresses are in every aspect of our life. But how are these classes identified, who chooses who is which? Here we need help of another social scie

for their interests, nations united by their own will. What about the question of values... whose values would be dominant, will there be unfairness? Probably there will be but the changes would be beneficial so that the dissappeared useless values wouldn’t take much attention. So, I agree that globalization is a good developement in the sense that useless, bad values are eliminated. So that the societies can improve themselves under the ideal values and they will have more wealthier lives, then. But it is important to examine different values rationally and if needed combine them to reach the idea model. As the third discussion, I want to talk about if there can exist a ‘superior’ race. I think that it is non sense to define a race is better than the other because evey race has its own superior characterisrics, which means that there can not be an inferior race, too. For example, the blacks are generally more stronger in the body structure or their skin is firm to sunlight than whites whereas whites do not have smell problem in the skin as blacks do have, or Chinese are more lissom in the body structure compared to the bigger sized bodies. These examples are not to seperate the races but just to show each race has its own superior behaviors. So the the concept ‘superiority’ changes place to place, time to time. We cannot define one superior race in this sense. Moreover, I am also against the term ‘race’ which seperates the humen from each other. Of course depending on the environment there can appear differences but this does not mean that they are different kinds of human beings, think of a black and white sister and brothers; do they have totally diffeent conceptions, or how can they one be one race and the other one other? They carry similar DNAs. So for me we should not seperate humen into catagories like ‘race’. Last, there is the main question of this study, if sociology is really beneficial in explaining international relations’ discussions. I am against the ones who claim that sociology is not useful because it has a national perspective. But aren’t the nations that form the international society. So by the help of them, international studies can be more extensive. Also, I don’t say that other sciences are not important, I beleive that even the physical sciences, like physics, are very contributive because they are rational and ideal sciences that explains the world systems not just the environments. But we should not neglect the importance of sociology in IR, too.

In the following pages, first you will find background information about the topic and some definitions of the concepts that you will be faced with, to examine the topic in all dimensions. Then, in the body part, the problem of slavery is studied in international aspect with and without the help of sociology, of course with the involvement of the concepts racism and ethnicity. After these studies, the discussion whether we definetaly need sociology or not becomes more clear. Why do Africans themselves engage in slave trades? Is there a difference between ethnicity and racism? How are the some approaches of social science International Relations related with sociology or racism?... and more, all are answered in the following pages. In the concluding part, you can find my own ideas of the topic and my benefits from this study. For further readings, you can look at the bibliography part. Enjoy the pages…
