Observations of Parenting Styl
The authoritarian style of parenting uses a high degree of parental control over a child's behavior and little nurturance in the form of praise, affection, and rewards. The child is expected to follow the parents' rules and regulations without questions or attempts at negotiation. The parent uses a forceful style of discipline (Moore, 1992). The authoritative parenting style is one of which uses high level of nurturing and moderate parental control over the child's behavior and activities. This style of parenting uses praise, rewards, and affection in nurturing and teaching the child what they expect from him. The parent teaches the child to follow the family values by explaining the rules and regulations to the child when administering a rule. The child learns to follow the family values by desire to please the parent because the parenting style is supportive and encouraging of the child (Moore, 1992). "Extensive verbal give-and-take is allowed, and parents are warm and nurturant toward the child."
