Before making a decision on whether or not to conceive a child, the issue of communication is very important. Both parties dealing with the conception should be well aware of the responsibilities that come with having a child. Be able to ask yourselves “Do we really want to have a child?” and “Are we financially responsible enough to care for a baby?” If you cannot answer those questions with positive feedback, then most likely you are not ready to care for another living being. Once pregnancy is determined the next stages are very important, critical, and even an enjoyment to the mother to be. Pregnancy is divided into three trimesters. The first trimester consist of the first month to the third month. This month is when the fertilization (conception) period begins. The egg grows in a sac that forms around it, gradually filling with fluid, this sac is known as the amniotic sac. The placenta also develops in the beginning of this trimester. Facial features begin to develop and continue to develop in the first trimester, the brain, spinal cord, and central nervous system is formed. Around six weeks or so the baby’s heartbeat can usually be heard. During the third month or so your baby is fully formed; arms, hands, fingers, feet, and toes. Reproductive organs are also beginning to develop but the baby’s sex cannot yet be determined. After first trimester, baby’s risk of miscarriage has decreased.

Labor like pregnancy has two stages that it goes through before reaching actual birth. The first stage is when the mother’s water breaks, associated with contractions usually ten to twenty minutes apart. The second stage of labor usually last about sixty to ninety minutes, in the stage the cervix opens and the baby begins to move down the birth canal; the mother may begin to push. At the end of the second stage of labor the baby is born. The third stage consists of the expulsion of the placenta. Of course not all babies are born head first so the baby may have to be taken by cesarean section.
