Henry VIII
Henry the VIII reign of England is often overshadowed by his many wives. His 36 years as king of England is characterized by rash and imprudent decisions, and he usually put his personal life over that of England. Henry VIII had interesting life as one of England’s most powerful rulers accompanied with accomplishments and failures that greatly altered England’s history as well as its future. The Second son of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York, Henry VIII was born in 1491(Henry).Henry VII started to move the monarchy to royal absolutism, or divine right in kings; Elizabeth was born during the “War of the Roses” and had a moderately hard life after her father died. It was said her life didn’t get much better after marrying Henry VII, on her 37 birthday Henry VII got her a tombstone, which she used shortly there after(). Henry VIII’s youth he was taught Renaissance ideals and showed interest in music, athletics, arts, and poetry(Henry VIII). He was smart, religious, and showed skills in leadership. Henry VIII became heir to the throne at the age of eleven after his brother’s death, Prince Author, in 1502 and became king in 1509.(Henry VIII) The kingdom he inherited had a healthy surplus and the parliament had not summon

In the 1540’s Henry married Catherine Howard, the relationship was most likely based on her looks instead of love. Henry beheaded her and her two lovers which one of who included her distant cousin, Thomas Culpeper(Culpeper). Howard was quoted saying: “I die a Queen, but I rather die the wife of Culpeper.” Henry’s sixth wife, Catherin Parr, provided his needs and the needs of h! Through out his reign as king Henry VIII had six wives and this is one reason why he is so infamous. His first wife Catherin of Aragon, was the widow of his older brother Prince Author(Henry). He divorced her because she wouldn’t bear him a son, which was needed because a woman couldn’t be left in charge of the tutor, which was still new and rebellions were possible(Henry VIII). Henry then married Anne Boleyn in 1533; she gave him one daughter, Elizabeth. Henry executed Boleyn for infidelity(Henry). Before her death she said: “Good Christian people, I am come hither to die, for according to the law, and by the law I am judged to die, and therefore I will speak nothing against it. I am come hither to accuse no man, nor to speak anything of that, whereof I am accused and condemned to die, but I pray God save the king and send him long to reign over you, for a gentler nor a more merciful prince was there never: and to me he was ever a good, a gentle and sovereign lord.
