Macbeth


            
             In the Shakespearean play, Macbeth is motivated by many of the things around him. Macbeth, a loyal and honorable warrior kills his worthy king and goes on a killing rampage to keep the role of his kingdom under his reign. During this period of craziness his wife Lady Macbeth, the three sisters, and his own fear influence Macbeth. .
             The greatest motivation that Macbeth receives is from Lady Macbeth. Lady Macbeth convinces Macbeth to kill Duncan, by telling him that he is not a true man unless he sticks to his word. Lady Macbeth says, "When you durst do it, then you were a man; and you be more than what you were, you would be so much more the man." (1.7.56-58) Men were superior in the time of Macbeth, for Lady Macbeth to take away his manliness was an insult and making Macbeth want to prove her wrong. With her demon personality through the first couple of acts she tells Macbeth that it is his time for the throne. She doesn't want him to miss this great opportunity. These passionate and intimidating words motivate Macbeth to do things he would have not done on his own.
             The prophecy that the three sisters told Macbeth motivates him to make them come true. Macbeth had thought of being king before the encounter with the witches, for someone to second that idea made Macbeth feel, as it was his fate to become king. Macbeth perceives the prophecy has the only way to get the throne was to get rid of king Duncan, not taking into consideration that it could just be his natural fate that would bring him to the throne. Macbeth curious to know the rest of the prophecy he visits the witches once again. Macbeth says, "I will be satisfied." (4.1.19) Macbeth demanding that the witches tell him who will take over the throne after his death. The witches tell Macbeth to fear Macduff and appear eight visions, all kings and the last king was a mirage of Fleance, Banquo's only child. Now knowing who is he is to be aware of, Macbeth realizes that Macduff has fled to England.
