Marijuana Is A Harmful Drug
Marijuana is an extremely harmful drug in which affects people’s lives in drastic ways. The view on this drug is sometimes being perceived as positive, rather than negative. This relates to the reasoning in which people think marijuana is a harmless drug. My past experience with marijuana helps provide the fact that marijuana is harmful to the body and the mind. I originally start smoking marijuana approximately one year ago while spending time with my friends. After that first time, I continued to smoke almost every weekend for quite some time. After a while, it turned into an everyday activity. I would smoke before I went to high school, leave and smoke during school, and later on after school had ended. At that point, marijuana was entirely taking over my life. This process continued for about another three months, until I realized I was psychologically addicted to pot. In order to be satisfied at the moment, I needed to be under the influence of this drug. Everything at that point in my life changed completely for me. Curiosity is another main cause of how people become involved with this bad habit. I originally heard stories and details about being stoned from people I associated with. Most stories seemed positive, therefore, I became quite interested in experiencing this sensation. he lazy “potheads”. Although at the time, I didn’t mind the drastic changes. As long as I was stoned I was only concerned with myself, and marijuana. I quit all the sports I used to play, my school grades dropped drastically, the communication between my parents and I decreased to almost nothing, and I found myself to be depressed when I was not stoned. That is when I began to realize this life-style was not that way I wanted to live. Marijuana is harmful in many different ways. Not only does it have harmful short-term effects, it also has harmful long-term effects. Short-term effects include altering and damaging brain cells controlling thinking, emotion, pleasure, coordination, mood and memory. The pituitary gland is also damaged, which regulates hunger, thirst, blood pressure, and sexual behavior. Long-term effects include an enhanced cancer risk, a decrease in testosterone levels and lower sperm counts for men, an increase in testosterone levels for women and increased risk of infertility, and a psychological depen
