... as the "Old Lights," as opposed to the converted "New Light." The "Old Lights" were usually established ministers. They believed the acts of "New Lights" were acts of illness, even so madness. Even though the fury continued and the separation of the congregations prolonged, the Great Awakening had many constructive results. I was fascinated to see how amazing the word of God can be interpreted into human language. Such a magnitude of various literatures was written on biblical interpretation, and each pursues its own purpose based on a particular hermeneutic methodology. However, the various hermeneutic methodologies can lead us to confusion and alienation from the word of God. In Myers" article entitled "The Hermeneutical Dilemma of the African American Bible Student, he talked about the methodological dilemma that African American biblical students have been wrestling in the biblical interpretation in both thei...

A Hindu Creation Story: Rig Veda The story of creation as depicted by the Hindu religion is very similar to that of Christianity. In both religions there is the presence of an almighty being that is responsible for the creation of life. The act of sacrifice by these almighty gods allows for the world to evolve. In the case of the Hindu, the sacrifice of Purusa allowed for the creation of the heavens and the earth, the wind and the water, as well as warriors and wildlife. In Christianity, God the father created all and sent his son Jesus down to earth where he is eventually sacrificed for the s...
Evils of Christianity It has been my experience, through my upbringing as a Christian, that Christians are often blind to the evils of the religion. They are taught from a young age that God is almighty, and should never be questioned, so the less-finer points in the religion are often skipped over. Many problems in society have arisen from this religion, which include discrimination, anti-Semitism, sexism, violence and war. Christianity has fought over hundreds of years to become the only religion, scaring people away from other religions in the process. Christians continuously fight among th...
... climax, two profound, yet opposing symbols come together: the crucifix and Nanabush. Dickie Bird uses a cross to rape the woman; a symbol of Christianity: the essence of western civilization. His victim is Patsy, the only character who still truly rejects Christian beliefs for the traditional Native culture. In the scene, Nanabush actually appears as Patsy. The point ... is therefore further emphasized since Nanabush is a central idea to Native life. The horrendous act reveals Highway's point; it shows the western culture raping the Native one. Although Dickie Bird is seen physically, s...
... a contradiction to Christian religion. According to the Bible, God knows the past, present, and future, and if that is true, the future could not determine how God feels, because he already knows what is in store. One could say that the human existence is nothing, but only in a certain context. Our human flesh and organs will all fade away one day, but the ... spirit within us is a part of God, and this lasts forever. Our feelings and thoughts guide us through this world, and you can choose to let God help and guide you along the way, ... or you can choose to ignore Him. Therefore, it ...
... Holy Week is probably the most important time for Christians because it symbolises God's love for us all when he sent his only begotten son down to earth to forgive us of our sins. Jesus had risen from the dead. He overcame death so believers in him would have eternal life. It was truly the greatest act of unconditional love for all mankind ... . To lay down his life so we could not be defeated by death and have eternal life. It also shows the strength of Jesus for his pain and struggle that he ... has experienced pain too, and can relate to us. Jesus resurrection shows his true power b...
