... in the atmosphere such as nitrogen (78%) and oxygen (21 %) through chemical and photochemical reactions to create secondary pollutants (Wikipedia). A perfect example of a secondary air pollutant will be ground level ozone (O3). AIR POLLUTION: THE PRIMARY AIR POLLUTANTS CARBON MONOXIDE (CO) Carbon monoxide is one of the most common air pollutants it our world today. It is an odorless, colourless gas formed ... use of nitrogen fixing plants are also known to contribute to atmospheric NOx by promoting nitrogen fixation by micro-organisms. In addition to contributing to the formation of gro...

... changes. For example, satellite estimates suggest that the difference in summertime erythemal UV irradiances between northern and southern hemispheres is around 10–15%. However, ground level measurements indicate that this difference may be even higher, probably due to lesser atmospheric pollution in the southern hemisphere. It is clear that under cloud-free skies there is a strong correlation between ... ground level erythemal UV radiation and levels of atmospheric ozone. Yet the effects of clouds, increasing troposphere ozone and aerosol pollution of the lower atmosphere modify this...

... to break the bonds. • Anti-cyclonic conditions (high pressure, still air); this would stop the air at high altitude mixing with the air closer to the ground and therefore the pollutants are trapped near ground level. Ozone is one of the reactants needed to form photochemical smog, however the concentration of ozone (O ) increases due to a number of reactions which take place ... waste that can pollute the atmosphere, For this reason the management of Longannet had to minimise the release of oxides of sulphur and nitrogen which are the main sources of pollution from the power plant.
