Some argue that court TV is in itself obscene, it shows convicted murderers and evidence including potential dead bodies and drugs all on network television. Public television is a public source and can be censored, which enables the edit of language and sexual content which in turn appeases the masses. Censorship is a big issue with Obscenity, some believe that it is necessary to shield the eyes and ears of our children and old folk, from the harshness that the world exhibits. But in the twentieth century there was a rise in the communist following, which strictly enforces the idea of censorship. The American people, who are afraid of the communist uprising, are fearful of allowing for full-scale censorship (and yet afraid that our government will become like Russia's in the nineteen eighties and such). So we use censorship lightly, afraid of public angst. The public body is what must be protected at all costs, what would politicians have if they did not have voters? So in order to preserve "public interest" and the local high opinion of the voting body, the regional legislation must ensure that their morality and high standards flow on to the general populace. Speech of such that can immediately affect the person or their character is said to be slander. Slander is illegal, it violates the rights of the victim (or the one slandered) and so is void as an item of free speech. There are many forms of speech that are not protected by the Bill of Rights and the first amendment in particular, those things that violate the person are considered obscene. Obscenity may change over time, and some wont; those that do have a place in the United States legal system, they are not encouraged and are illegal in all fifty states.
Conclusion .
Obscenity is the lewd and grotesques that people just dont want to see. There is a reason that it's illegal. Personally, I would not want to be driving down the road and be subjected to a person performing illicitly obscene activities on the roadside.
