In this short piece the author is exploring the youthful adventuress side of a group of young boys as they strive for attention within their group. This is portrayed as they enjoy their free time in an area in town near the local Laundromat. It explores both the youths adventuresome and wild side while still incorporating their nave side very subtlety as the piece comes to a close. Hearing the views of the boys tales shows their ignorance towards authority as well as their calculated ideas on how to strike and become even. This is where revenge takes hold of the story, and where we witness the fearless side of one of the boys in particular. At this point, the story is showing the youths need to make up for an earlier embarrassment, no matter what the cost may be. .
The boys need for attention and not to be looked down upon by his peers for not putting up some type of resistance in the earlier stages now comes through, he must show up his aggressor so as not to fall to the bottom of the pecking order of the group. Peer pressure now quickly enters the picture when the chance arises, and shows us that a hastily made decision almost lands the boy in turmoil but eventually leads him to the admiration of the group. We see that in this case in particular, youth are quite prepared to run the risk of being caught and ultimately hurt in order to impress the group in order to fit in. .
