American Dream

 

             American Dream.
             Dreams are nothing more than hopeless aspirations through the American eye. Maybe we tend to take the freedom we have for granted, or maybe some have discovered that we are not free at all. Each culture and heritage has it's own theory, but whom is to determine which is true and which is false? .
             Having knowledge of my ancestors and their struggles in this country lead me to believe that there is no such thing as an American Dream. It is just one's interpretation/Idea of American Life and how it is lived. Sure, Americans may have it better than most countries if not all, but Blacks in general have come from 200+ years of hate, oppression, and pain. It's true, slavery has been abolished, but racism and separation lives on and can be seen in buses, the cities, and even in or very own schools! W.W.II was fought for the freedom and rights of all citizens, many of those soldiers were Black. Those-whom-lives were spared in that war came back to America only to be killed by fellow Americans. Isn't that ironic? They went overseas to fight against racism and hatred ONLY to come back HOME to where it was BIRTHED and still lives! That proves that America was not only built on the backs of slaves, but also on the actions of blatant hypocrites. What kind of Dream is that?! Another example, Our schools. In the 14th Amendment, it states that All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws. It was also said that "All Men Are Created Equal.
