Lord of the Flies

 

            The hunt has divided the boys" society into two groups. The first group of the boys" society, which was under the leadership of Ralph, wants to get rescued, however, the other group of the boys" society, which was under the leadership of Jack, wants to hunt and enjoy themselves. The boys" society has started to divide when Ralph reminds Jack of his responsibility of maintaining the signal fire but Jack was not in a mood of listening to Ralph, in fact he said, "We can light the fire again. You should have been with us, Ralph. We had a smashing time." (Golding, p./73). That quote describes that jack is not aware of the seriousness of getting rescued. The hunt for the beast has also divided the boys" society. The littl"uns were terrified by visions of beasts in the night and soon their fears were spreading throughout the group. Ralph tries to control the boys by explaining the boys how important the signal fire is for their rescue but the boys fear of the beast was growing and they did not agree about the importance of the fire. Simon tries to calm the boys by saying, "maybe there is a beast". (Golding, p./95). Simon also said that, " What I mean is . . . maybe it's only us." (Golding, p./96). Nobody listened to Simon and the boys laugh at him. On one hand, Jack wants to kill the beast but on the other.
             hand, Ralph tries to remind the boys that getting rescued is more important than killing a beast. .

             Everybody agrees on Jack's idea but after a while, Jack accused Ralph of being a coward and announced that he is leaving the group and will form his own tribe, devoted of hunting and having fun. The boys split into two factions, those who support Ralph and those who support Jack and his savage ways and that is how the hunt has divided the boys" society.
