Work Place Problem

             The marketing team has been undergoing a problem of a similar nature. Recently, a new member has joined us as our Media Manager. He is a highly capable individual and his skills justly entitle him to this post. But the problem lies in the fact that he is unable to understand the dynamics of working in a team. He has developed the wrong impression that the members of the team are subordinate to the Manager and they have a lesser value in the functioning of the team. Apart from this another problem that he has been facing is accepting my position as the leader of the team. As he is senior to me in age and experience, he is facing difficulty in accommodating himself in a team, which is headed by a person younger than him. This has led to some conflict within himself involving his personal ego and his professional responsibility. .
             This problem that he has been undergoing has made him to act in an inappropriate manner and disturb the discipline of the marketing team and disrupt the smooth functioning of the whole team. It is not only his performance that is affected by his undesirable behavior, but the performance of some other members of the team has also been disturbed. He views any task that I assign to him as an order whose fulfillment is a hurt to his ego. Therefore he does not complete his work on time, which naturally affects the operations of the whole team. If I comment on his work and suggest some changes in his proposals, he takes it as a personal attack and is not ready to accept and implement them. As he has formed the wrong impression that he is treated as a subordinate and not as an equal and worthy member of the team, his participation in the team is minimum and he continues to raise unnecessary arguments. .
             Consciously or unconsciously, he has also been trying to damage my reputation in the team as a leader and to create disharmony between me and other members of the team.
