Nat Turner

Have you heard of the expression, "God works in mysterious ways"? Well he does. I have chosen the "Confessions of Nat Turner". And in these confessions, Turner reveals that God led him to bring judgement against the white slave owners because of the institution of slavery. He had a vision in which "white spirits and black spirits engaged in battle, and the sun was darkened - the thunder rolled in the heavens, and blood flowed in streams . . ." .
Nat was born a slave. At an early age he showed great signs of intelligence. Reading and writing almost came to him naturally. His mother and grandmother recognized natural marks on his face and body. Those marks revealed spiritual meaning, he was to serve a purpose, that purpose was to serve the lord.
Nat became a prophet for the lord. He did not cheat, steal, or lye. He devoted most of his time to prayer. It was definitely confirmed in his mind that he was on Earth to serve a great purpose. Nat started communicating with his friends and family, he started sharing with them the wisdom of God. Nat became very infatuated with a particular passage, "Seek ye the kingdom of Heaven and all things shall be added unto you." Then one day Nat ran away. But did return because the Spirit spoke down from heaven and said to him, to return to his earthy master - "For he who knoweth his Master's will, and doeth it not, shall be beaten with many stripes, and thus, have I chasten you."1.
After receiving several signs from God, he made the decision to prepare himself, to slay his enemies with weapons and communicate with whom he greatly trusted. He felt he and his men were intended to do the work of death. A plan was made and action was taken. Nat led one of the biggest and most gruesome slave revolts. Going from one house to another, killing every woman, man and child. And that is just what they did, starting with his Master's house.
             Word spread very fast.
