Interpretation of the short-story

.
Another thing that this visit to his neighbors" apartment causes on him is an.
increase in his sexual desire: as soon as he comes back from the Stones" place, he takes his wife to bed, and even in the next day, he gets earlier from work to have sex with his wife.
After having sex with Arlene, Bill goes again to his neighbors" apartment to feed the cat. After doing it, he starts to open all the cupboards, examining everything in its inside. He opens the refrigerator, eats a piece of cheese and an apple. Why does he do this? He can't be hungry since he has dinner at his place before going there. And even if he was, he could go eat at his apartment, which is in the other side of the hall. It's possible to say that he doesn't want his place, his food, he wants his neighbors" home, their food, because he wants to be them. .
Then he goes to the bedroom, opens a nightstand drawer, takes a half-empty package of cigarettes and puts it in his pocket. When he was opening the closet, Arlene knocked on the front door. All these actions show not only that he is investigating Stones" life, but also show that he is getting familiar with the things that would be his if he were one of them, or that will be his when he becomes one of them.
When he opens the door, Arlene asks him why he took so long and he gives her lying excuse. Then they go to their own apartment and make love again. It seems that these visits are giving them a new life, a much more exciting one. Maybe so exciting as Jim and Harriet's life.
In the next morning he feels strange, he tries to read a book, he goes out for a walk, but nothing that he used to do seems to satisfy him, except for the apartment across the hall, which is giving him a new life. And he needs to go back there to keep discovering things about this life.
So he goes back there and observes everything very carefully: objects, furniture, kitchen utensils. Then he goes to the bedroom, lays down on the bed and starts to think about the Stones.
