Sex and Lucia

.
The movie received a significant amount of criticism all over the world due to the abundant nudity. Two major Seattle newspapers, the Seattle Times and Seattle Post-Intelligencer, decided to ban ads for the film, despite the fact that it won awards for best director and best screenplay at the city's film festival in June this year. Sex and Lucí is, in my opinion, a landmark movie in the demonstration of explicit sex on-screen. This movie is made for sophisticated tastes that love to experience the boundaries of film. Mr. Medem has crossed the taboo that American films would never dare to touch, particularly the full-frontal shots of the male actors. Even though filmmakers show total female nudity since the beginning of motion pictures, it is still not common to portray the vulnerability of men. Sexual explosiveness and erotic passion are perhaps the signatures of this work, but they are photographed in such a refreshing aesthetical and authentic manner that the explicitness becomes unnoticed during the course of the film. Furthermore, the sex is arousing but meaningful too, as the almost dangerous addiction to sex expresses the type of love between Lorenzo and Lucí.
The endless focus on the provocative sex scenes in this film does not give Sex and Lucí the credits it deserves, considering the fact that the plot and storytelling are rather interesting. "As those familiar with Medem's past work will expect, this is a difficult film to pin down. Lorenzo's circular narratives blur the lines between fiction and reality, and the viewer gets carried along on waves of fate and coincidence."" This film starts slow and ordinary, just as the novel within. But we soon weave all sorts of ambiguous narrative threads, each creating the other. The narrative is convoluted as well as circular, and one is never completely sure whether what is seen is part of the storyline or merely a scene from Lorenzo's novel.
