             In the infamous Kitty Genovese case in New York in 1964, 38 people had a chance to interrupt a murder in progress , but did not . Why such things happen has perplexed philosophers for centuries , and today psychologists have joined the search for answers. .
             Our most popular form of modern philosophy is psychology . Psychology is the science of the mind and behavior, proven through series of tested theories and beliefs. In psychology there are many extraordinary people who have revolutionized the way we not only treat patients but the way we live our life's. But in this marvels world of psychology one name overshadows all , Sigmund Freud . A true intellectual revolutionary , he postulated that we all are born with powerful instinctual drives , which must be tamed if we are to become civilized . The conflict between gratification an repression of these drives leads to neuroses and psychoses, Freud introduced psychoanalysis as a treatment of these conflicts. .
             The birth of psychoanalysis began with a young lady name Bertha Apennine , who was given the name "Anna O" for privacy. She was the daughter of a wealthy , traditional Viennese family , brought up to marry and have a family . Instead she became completely immobilized with an attack of hysteria . The therapy used to treat her led to the development of psychoanalysis. .

             Now what is Freudian therapy? Sigmund Freud believed that the mind is a battleground of conflicting impulses from three theoretical factions : the id ,ego, and superego . The id is the mind's "animal" pleasure seeking principle ; superego is our conscience and the ego tries to meditate between the two and at the same time deal with external realities.
             Most of the battle rages beneath the level of consciences , and most of the conflicts have their roots in early childhood .
