Many would argue the dangerous effects brought on by an inter-office romance. When two people spend a lot of time together, it is obvious that they could develop an attraction toward each other. .
Two, now very good friends of mine, met during our two week training session for a new job. They have now been married for 3 years. A couple could be sent on a business trip together, assigned to a special project, or simply sit near each other. The possibilities are endless. .
Romances such as these can cause much turmoil in a business setting. Once involved, it can be harder to leave personal issues at home because often times you"re car-pooling with the very "problem" in question. Often times, innocent flirtation becomes and adulterous affair. One's concentration and over-all demeanor can be altered considerably. .
Also, management may take into consideration the quality of the office environment. The parties involved can bring unintentional attention to themselves. Gossip stirs about, co-workers may respond negatively, and careers may be compromised.
Office guidelines vary in regard to their fraternization policies. Some choose to play it safe and avoid conflict. Others have a don't ask, don't tell policy, and still, more old fashioned offices welcome whatever "good" may come out of a relationship between their employees. .
If a couple is determined, genuine, and mature, unfortunate situations can more easily be avoided. Otherwise, problems such as the ones I've mentioned above are bound to effect the morale of the office and the employees in question.
