Walls Made of Cellophane

"Is there a different way to teach homosexuals? Is there gay math? This is wrong. There's no reason these children should be treated separately." - Mike Long.
There is no reason these adolescents should be treated differently or separately in anyway, but they are. Every day in the life of a public Homosexual/Bisexual/Transgender is different to that of a Heterosexual. This is not a direct effect of their being GLBT, it is a direct effect of their being known as GLBT.
In the short run - the short run being their time at the school - this safety from the outside world's stupidity is ideal; it allows them to exist without the common, misguided hassles their sexuality may bring about in "straight schools". This in turn will allow them to function better and be happier. The segregation of these students may create a haven for the students whilst they"re hidden within their sanctuary, but when they get out, how will it help? .
Putting a partition between some of the public and the rest of it will most likely just cause further alienation for the students.
In addition, does this not take another step towards defining them as their sexuality? Some students go to sporting schools, some to musical schools, others to gay schools. Athlete, Musician, Homosexual/Bisexual/Transgender. This is surely not desired?.
Is this approach not now just swapping to a different side of the equation? Now Heterosexual students are being discriminated against, are they not? Will this not in turn just cause more dislike and resentment? Discrimination begets discrimination.
It could be said that by creating a school specifically geared for a group of peoples, it's making them a more equal group of people in a society striving for equality.
Do not think that I am oblivious to the good in this school:.
It is offering those who have been bullied and tormented a very basic something that they deserve: safety and belonging. .
It is handing back to them a basic human right, which has been taken, no, stolen from them by far too many powerful, stained hands.
