Be Silent, Be Still

In today's society, homosexuals aren't being given equal rights because they're different. Just like colored people, men and women who engage in same-sex relationships are frowned upon and given names like "fags", "queers" and "dykes". This is discrimination, and it's wrong.
In a world where the Bible doesn't have nearly the impact that it used to, why should we base the argument on legalizing same-sex marriages on the biblical foundation that "The Bible would think this is wrong" I'm catholic and I go to church every Sunday, but I don't see what the big deal is. So what if two men are attracted to each other, fall in love and want to get married. I don't understand why it's so hard for some people to comprehend that gays and lesbians are just like the rest of us. They share the same feelings, the same hopes, and the same ambitions. If we're going to base the whole argument on the Bible, doesn't it state that "We are all God's children"?.
People who are against same-sex relationships feel that way because it's different and they're scared of what they don't know. They treat homosexuality as if it's some kind of plague that is about to take over the world, but it's not. It's just a lifestyle that's not hurting anybody. W.M. Lewis once said "The tragedy of life is not that it ends so soon, but that we wait so long to begin it." Gays and lesbians who want to get married just want to start their lives. And nobody has the right to hold them back.
