We are All Prisoners of Civilization

The governments are trying to build a prison. Though this prison is not a prison of stone and iron. In fact it already exists, binding us, the people, in chains. This is a prison of law and order which societies put up around us to sustain their power. Any form of ordered government does this by taking the power away from the people. However such vast power ultimately corrupts the governments. These corrupt governments no longer function in the sense that they no longer care about the people. Instead they become like drug addicts, caring about nothing, save the power which they now wield. To maintain such power they make laws which are no longer made to protect the people whom they rule over, but rather to maintain their power. People who have followed the laws while the ruling party was still manufacturing laws to keep the people safe and ensure that they will have rights and so forth will have become so dependent on the government by this time that they will no longer question the laws created by that government. They have become prisoners of order.
Throughout history governments, the representatives of order in civilization, have become corrupt and ceased to serve the people. Because of this they all fell. This dates back to the days of the Roman Republic when the senate ruled over the people. The senate who were chosen from the people, by the people, to serve the people wound up tainted by greed and lust for power. When a young, power hungry Julius Caesar stole power of government from the senate and created an empire, he was betrayed and murdered. This did not stop the empire however, and other emperors took the role of Caesar. These men were no better than the senators who had preceded them. It is true that there were good emperors such as Augustine and Hadrian who did great things, but they did not do great things for Rome. They did great things to sustain their own power after learning from the examples of tyrants like Caligula.
