Pilates and Yoga

 

            There are two different types of exercises people choose to do to stay fit or become fit. Some people choose to do Pilates when they want to concentrate on their core strength. Other people prefer to do yoga to center their body and mind. Pilates and yoga are both good exercise for the body. .

             Pilates is an exercise developed to help sick people during World War II, and is now an exercise popular throughout the United States. The main purpose of Pilates is to gain balance and control of the bodies' muscles, and center the mind and core. Many people who prefer yoga over Pilates find it will help them gain balance in their life. Pilates is the exercise that strengthens and tones ones muscles; such as one exercise, performed in Pilates, called the teaser which strengthens the abdominal muscles through balancing on the tail bone in a "v-sit position with arms parallel to the legs up in the air, and head in natural position. .
             When someone thinks of yoga, what comes to mind is usually how it relaxes the body and relieves stress? In order to be capable of doing yoga it takes strength and flexibility. During Pilate, people performing the exercises are instructed to concentrate on each movement and muscle using their mind, and to imagine each movement with their imagination. For example, the breast stroke exercise could be imagined as though swimming through a puddle of mud doing the breast stroke. Every instructor will also tell the people in their class to concentrate on breathing when transitioning from one movement to another. One thing that Pilates also enhances besides people gaining control of their body is it allows one to gain flexibility. .

             Pilates is one type of exercise that people will undergo to get in shape and tone those muscles that are hard to tone in a gym. Every position performed requires strength because of the amount of time a person shall hold it. Yoga also takes concentration and balance to hold a position.
