The Issue of Childhood Obesity

.
So far, the research that I have done has proven that because of the lack of supervision and poor examples parents are giving their children there is no one else to blame besides the parents. I have gathered credible research that confirms the statement that I have made. "Obesity should be preventable through: increasing energy output (physical activity); reducing energy intake (diet)." (Burniat, 2002, p. 245) The sources that were used were gathered from were two government health sites and two credible sources from Ashford University's online library. The United States as a whole is more overweight than ever before, having poor eating and exercising habits to that have been handed down from past generations. "Children and adolescents are eating more food away from home, drinking more sugar-sweetened drinks, and snacking more frequently" (Childhood Obesity, 2011). With parents being consumed by work they take the easy way out and lead more and more towards consuming service or fast food restaurant meals or to buying microwave dinners that are already prepared, low cost, quickly accessible meals to prepare at home when time doesn't permit. .
The low percentage of physical activities that are going on across America is another leading reason for obesity. "About 35 percent of high school students report that they participate in at least 60 minutes of physical activity on 5 or more days of the week, and only 30 percent of students report that they attend physical education class daily. As children get older, participation in regular physical activity decreases dramatically" (Statistics Related to Overweight and Obesity) As we all know it is harder for adults to lose weight than it is for children because of habits that are formed. Ways to prevent and treat obesity and being overweight is simple, its hard work through physical activities and will power of eating healthy and low fat food.
