High Tech Computer Corp. (HTC) in Myanmar

But until two years ago, the government has become democratic. Under the previous government, economic restrictions were stiff which made it hard for foreign investments. While now instead the new government encourages foreign investment and particular telcos to enter to help improve its infrastructure. So although currently there isn't an optimum place for mobile phones, but from the positive attitude of the government, there probably would be a steady development of telcom infrastructure, which will provide a good environment for mobile phone users. .
For the small number of mobile phone users in Myanmar, there is a big problem for them. That is phones currently on sale are not available in the Myanmian. What could users do only is to change the language through unofficial method, yet this brings an huge disadvantage to users that those phones will lose the warranty. Interestingly, HTC became the first phone seller to introduce phones with a Myanmian system "they design it in corporation with a Myanmar IT company. It is a milestone for HTC to solve the long-lasting problem of Myanmian mobile phone users, and it would certainly give HTC's phones a unique selling point. Likewise, before HTC, all other phone company's phone product lines are cheap handsets, specifically to fit the low-GDP of Myanmar. HTC's entrance this time includes six phones, the Desire V, Desire X and Desire VX, Butterfly, One, One X, The first three are low-price phones as like its competitors; however the latter three are high-end handsets that have never been introduced in Myanmar, and notably the HTC Butterfly is the highest priced phone in its product line. HTC is making an unprecedented move to risk themselves of selling phones that are priced not appropriately to the average Myanmian's income. Indeed, there are plausible reasons. Firstly it links strongly to the politic reform. From the PEST, we know that it has become a democracy recently and it encourages foreign investment specifically in the telecommunication industry, and this may really be an opportunity.
