Movie - The Royal Tenenbaums

Their research then goes on to support how these problems tend to persist into the Child's adult years by stating, "People don't soon forget that they were disfavored by their parents, and many people report that being disfavored as a child continues to affect their self-esteem and their relationships in adulthood "(Foster and Shrira, The Narcissus in all of Us). .
The negative effects on the disfavored child are acutely portrayed in several scenes throughout the movie. First, in the early introductory part of the film, Royal is shown favoring his son, Richie. The narrator states, "On weekends, Royal took him (Richie) on outings around the city; these invitations were never extended to anyone else." During this statement, Richie is shown betting on a dog fight with his father, while Chas and Margot look out of their individual bedroom windows with looks and expressions that indicate feelings of loneliness and solitude (The Royal Tenenbaums). m .
Prior to this, the film introduces Margot, where the narrator describes how Royal would always mention how Margot was adopted when introducing her to others. Later on, Margot writes a play that she performs with her siblings on her 11th birthday. At the after party, Royal says, "It (the play) didn't seem believable to me "(The Royal Tenenbaums). Margot storms out of the room in anger, just as her mother is entering with the birthday cake. As the movie goes on, Margot runs away from home for four her teenage years, lies about smoking cigarettes for her entire childhood, engages in short-lived romances with many men, and cheats on her husband (The Royal Tenenbaums). .
All of these actions clearly support the idea that a disfavored child is more likely to have serious issues growing up. In this case, Margot detaches from her family by running away and lives a life that is full of lying and cheating. This occurs not only in her younger years by hiding cigarettes in hundreds of spots throughout her house, but all the way into her adult years by cheating on her husband.
