Personal Story - The Beginning of the End

I was so confused and had so many mixed thoughts because I had never had a baby before. I was only nineteen. Why didn't I ask myself all these questions and think more about literally giving birth prior to allowing myself to get pregnant. "You really dug yourself deep this time Christina! " I thought to myself. I valued life and felt so guilty inside for even questioning myself regarding terminating the pregnancy. I had recently contacted him to tell him I was pregnant. A few days after I reconnected with Melvin to share the news of our pregnancy, he was stabbed twice in the back. The knife penetrated once in the shoulder and once on the tenth vertebrae which severed part of his spinal cord. My younger brother David stabbed Melvin with a steak knife because Melvin was hitting me. David was only fourteen at the time and he was trying to protect me. I was put me in a situation where I had to choose between either taking sides with the father of my unborn daughter, Melvin, or my younger brother David. David, took it upon himself to get involved and protect me. I will never forget how fast everything happened. .
It was two a.m. in December, three days before Christmas. The trees were dead and the night sky was gray. I remember the moon was covered with huge grey clouds which created a dull color in the sky. My mom had attended an employee Christmas party with her fellow co-workers and asked if I could watch over my little brother Jacob who was six years old. My fourteen year old brother, David, had agreed to babysit our nephew Christopher, who was only five years old. As I laid down on the couch, I heard footsteps crunching through the dead leaves in front of my apartment. Suddenly the front door swung open. It was Melvin. He came over unexpectedly and barged into the apartment. He was drunk- again. . He slammed the door open, slurring and screaming "Who was that guy running around your parking lot just now? You are a whore! " .
