Responsibility

After begging and pleading with my parents the answer was always no. I would try to make them reconsider but they would always say "a puppy is a big responsibility and you can't even keep you room clean." I never understood what keeping my room clean had to do with owning a puppy but I would always loose the argument. As I got older my responsibilities started to grow. I had to take out the trash, wash the dishes, and of course keep my room clean. I never figured out though what that had to do with having a puppy. Then the summer after my 7th grade year I got a call out of the blue from one of my neighbors asking if I would be interested in a job working at her in home daycare. I said yes and now five years later I truly know the meaning of responsibility.
When I walked in on my first day of work I had no idea what to expect. I had never babysat and the only experience I had with little kids was when I was one. When I walked in there were many children running around. They all stopped to look at me and that is when my boss said "this is Becky and she is going to come over to play sometimes." All of the kids were great we played games watched movies and did all the other things that little kids do. I had the greatest job ever. .
After a few years of working there I knew more about kids than many first time mothers. I have taken care of babies as young as 2 and kids as old as 13. The experiences I have had with the kids taught me more responsibility then all my years of school. .
One of my first lessons in responsibility was how to take care of an owie. Most of the time when the kids would get hurt it would just be because they tripped or fell down. When this would happen most of the time the kids would just need a hug or to sit down and just be healed. When a kid would get scratched and was bleeding a band aid would make it all better. If something big were to happen then I would tell my boss.
