Pro Football - Why Not the New Orleans Saints?

However, in August 2005 Hurricane Katrina a category 5 storm ravaged the Gulf coast. Almost 80% of New Orleans was under water. As disastrous as this catastrophe was for the city and its residents, the outlook of its Saints was not any better. There were rumors that owner Tom Benson was considering moving the team to San Antonio. In 2006 the Superdome re opened its doors as the Saints hosted NFC rival the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football. This was a memorable game which included Steve Gleason's punt block that was returned for a touchdown. This game was the beginning to a record season. Since then the new Orleans Saints have gone on to beat the colts in Superbowl XLIV in Miami. Residents of New Orleans could not be more thrilled to watch the Saints play in the Superdome. Since 2011 the saints have a record of 20-4 at home in the Superdome. Last year they were undefeated at home. The pride that fills this city for its Black & Gold is evident. Forbes.com lists the Saints having the 3rd best fan base behind the "Cheeseheads " in Green Bay at #1. The Who Dat fans rank #1 in TV Audience and Stadium attendance. In hometown crowd and social media they ranked #2. If it were not for the merchandise rank of #10 they would have eclipsed the Denver Broncos whose fan base ranks #2. New Orleans really comes together as a city to support its Saints, not just as a sports franchise but also as an outlet for people of all walks of life race, creed, or religion to unify together and stand up for something.
Game day in New Orleans starts way before kickoff. Outside the Superdome is Champion Square, a 90,000 square foot festival venue that opened in 2010.
