Another difference in the Brothers Grimm story is that Cinderellas father is still alive and does nothing to defend his daughter from the cruel treatment perpetrated on her by her stepfamily. The Brothers Grim tale is more of the fairy tale we have come to expect, but without the fairy godmother and a lot more bloodshed (Grimm, 2013). .
In Everafter, the prince throws a ball in order to find a prospective bride. In the Brothers Grimm version the king threw a three day festival for the prince to find a bride. In both stories the stepmother tells Cinderella she can attend after she completes household chores, but changes her mind at the last minute shattering Cinderellas heart. In the tale of the Brothers Grimm, Cinderella runs and cries to her mothers grave and then finds a silver and gold dress accompanied by a pair of slippers being given to her by her nature friendly birds (Grimm, 2013). In the Everafter tale Cinderella finds three dresses of her descending from the skies for her to choose. In both tales Cinderella makes an appearance at the ball and loses her shoe. In Everafter the prince knows who the lost slipper belongs to due to his already meeting and falling in love with her before (Everafter a Cinderella Story, 2010). .
In the Brothers version, the prince falls for Cinderella but does not know who she is all he has is the slipper was left behind. The prince vows to wed the woman whose foot fits the slipper. The prince scours the kingdom for his maiden and once he arrives at Cinderellas house her stepsisters try on the slipper but it doesnt fit properly on either one. The sisters end up going to drastic measures by severing their limbs in order to try get a good fit. In the end, it doesnt end well for the step sisters and Cinderella is eventually allowed a chance to fit into the slipper, and of course it fits effortlessly and Cinderella and the prince get married (Grimm, 2013).
