Impact of E-payment in Curtailing Fraud in Government Agencies

 

The policy has been condemned by all and sundry for lack of planning, inefficiencies and delay in the payment for goods and services and worst still incessant fraud .
             The introduction of e-payment in Nigeria was done initially to eliminate the un-acceptable delay in the payment of government contractors by minimizing interaction between contractors and government officials who have role to play in the payment system but was later extended to cover all payments from any government fund effective 1st January, 2009. Concerns have been raised on the payment system implementation and concerns. .
             1.1 Objectives of the Study .
             The general objective of the study the impact of e-payment in preventing fraud in government agencies .The study specifically identified the following objectives: .
             (i) To assess the effectiveness of the implementation of e-payment system in Nigeria .
             (ii) To find out if fraud is a major challenge militating against effective implementation of use of e-payment system for settlement of transaction in government .
             (iii) To examine the extent to which e-payment system curtails the level of fraud in public sector .
             (iv) To examine the perceived benefit of introduction of e-payment system in government businesses.
             (v) To identify other challenges of introduction of e-payment system in government business. .
             In line with the objective, this research examine the constraint to e-payment as a means of curtailing fraud in government agencies in Nigeria.
             1.2 Significance of the Study.
             The study would enable the Government agencies in Nigeria , company executives and indeed the policy makers in Nigeria and financial institutions to be aware of the use of e-payment as a means of curtailing fraud and with a view to making strategic decisions and also ensure stakeholders and customer satisfaction.
