" (Ruble et al., 2006; Yarhouse, 2001).
Intervention #1.
Variable: Sexual orientation.
Age/Grade: Appropriate for k-12 grade levels.
Intervention/Strategy: A non bias non discriminatory classroom policy that students have to abide by and if not followed there would be an after school or weekend assignment working with a sexual orientation and identity self help group.
Explanation: The purpose for this intervention would be to help open the eyes of those in the class that don't think that ones right to their own sexual orientation is a right given to all of us not just those of the social norm. This classroom policy would make for students that had a sexual orientation difference feel like they weren't any different then any other student in the classroom. The objective with the intervention is to educate the children that feel this is a negative way to live your life due to sexual preference or gender transformation. .
Relation to EDPS: " • Acceptance -As young adults, many individuals sort through sexual orientation issues and identify themselves as gay, lesbian, or bisexual. They may or may not make their sexual orientation public, but might share the information with a few friends." I found this in chapter six under Sexual Orientation and it shows a direct relationship to what my intervention is trying to accomplish and acceptance is the main objective in the classroom.
Intervention #2.
Variable: Sexual Orientation.
Age/Grade Level: Appropriate for 7-12. Sexual overtones may not be appropriate due to the lack of sexual knowledge in the earlier levels. .
Intervention/Strategy: Have a school wide half day once a year on sexual confusion, and a knowledge based lecture on sexual acceptance for bi-sexual and homo-sexual preference. .
Explanation: The half day would be strictly to teach acceptance knowledge on sexual orientation for bi-sexual and homo-sexual students. For those strong students that don't hide their sexual orientation they can come together as a group and help to educate the other students to show that they're not any different than any other student in the school.
