He blindfolds them and leads them away from the tower. Clotaldo recognizes Rosaura's sword as his own. He had once given that sword to Rosaura's mother.
             In the second act Clotaldo prepares a potion with various herbs.These herbs had secret strengths. Clotaldo then offers the potion to Segismundo. He falls asleep and then is taken to the king's palace. When the prince awakes, Clotaldo tells him to rule over Poland. Segismundo then condemns Clotaldo to death for mistreating him in prison but decides not to kill him. Astolfo and Estrella were to be married so that Astolfo could be the royal heir to the throne. Segismundo spoke to Astolfo and thought that he was speaking rudely, then a servant stepped in and said that he should behave as royalty. Segismundo then threw this servant off of a balcony and into the ocean. Basilio is disappointed in his son and sends him back to the tower and tells him this was all a dream.
             In act three, the King wants to put Astolfo on the throne. Basilio's soldiers do not want a prince from Muscovy to lead the people. The soldiers invade the tower and free Segismundo and ask him to be the King because he is the true heir. Thinking he is in another dream, Segismundo chooses to fight against his father. Segismundo lets Clotaldo return to the king because he knew how loyal he was to the king. This is the first time I saw a humane act done by Segismundo. Estrella stood beside Basilio because she was going to be queen. Rosaura plotted to kill Astolfo for what he did to her. Segismundo finds out about Astolfo dishonoring Rosaura and promises to help him in the future. Rosaura stands beside Segismundo. In the final battle Clarín is killed even though he takes no side. Basilio is defeated by Segismundo and kneels before him. Segismundo shows mercy and does not kill his father. Segismundo commands Astolfo to marry Rosaura to restore her honor. Segismundo then marries Estrella.
