Death of an Angel - Leelah Alcorn

A panic has suddenly risen in the transgender community because of the death of a once confident transgender girl, Leelah Alcorn. Being all over the news stations, some people's minds are realizing that a girl killed herself because she couldn't be accepted for what she wanted to be, and it was because of how her own family treated her. Leelah Alcorn is a transgender girl, originally born as Joshua Alcorn. She said that she was a girl trapped in a boy's body and was overjoyed to find out what being a transgender meant. Leelah's blog says that when she came out to her mother about how she felt about herself, her mother reacted extremely negatively and said that "God doesn't make mistakes" because she thought how Leelah saw herself was a mistake. Even though the Bible says that God doesn't make mistakes, and that being a different sexuality is wrong, no parent or family member should make their child feel wrong or insecure about how they feel about themselves. She had a positive support from friends and people at school, but her parents were appalled and refused to accept her. Her parents had taken away everything she had that gave her access to social media and her friends, and soon took her out of public school and enrolled her into an online school. .
Alcorn decided to take her life on December 28, 2014, and scheduled her suicide note to be posted online a few hours after her death, the notes saying, "I have decided I've had enough. I'm never going to transition successfully, even when I move out. I'm never going to be happy with the way I look or sound. I'm never going to have enough friends to satisfy me. I'm never going to have enough love to satisfy me. I'm never going to find a man who loves me. I'm never going to be happy. Either I live the rest of my life as a lonely man who wishes he were a woman or I live my life as a lonelier woman who hates herself. There's no winning.
