The Importance of Hard Work

"Fries! I need fries all day! And where's that order of Onion rings?!" "Coming right up!" This was my whole summer, in the hot kitchen of my mother's restaurant, and by the end of it, I would have tested skills like none other. Seeing my family members be the very essence of hard work, I realized it's something that has become a big part of who I am and what I value in life. Growing up in an environment of diligence, I dream to earn my own place in this world and to prove that working hard is going to get me to that point. Starting in June of this year, I began working in a place that would be the most physically and emotionally straining experience I have ever gone through. Now what place could possibly do this to a person one might ask? That's right, a kitchen. Hot pans, stove tops, and friers with 350° oil surrounding me for 16 hours a day, the burns on my arms are the permanent souvenirs I carry from it. Did this turn me away? Not a chance. The top people I worked with in the kitchen showed genuine patience and hard work, my mom being the shining example among them all. I wanted to prove that I could be a part of this kitchen, pushing me to rise to the occasion and bring out skills I already possessed, but on a whole new level.
It was easy at first. I followed instructions from my mom and quickly picked up on the ways of the kitchen. I prepped food for lunch and dinner, dropped chicken and fries in the friers, and started orders like a pro. I had the support of those working with me and any mistakes I made were corrected with patience, which let me say, is quite rare to find in a typical professional kitchen. Everything was perfect as far as I was concerned, until it was quite the opposite all at once. Mid-summer, my family received news that we had to move out of our house, and the support of the staff that had been working with my mom and I in the kitchen, quit, and moved on to other jobs at the same time.
