The East Coast, West Coast Rivalry

To some people these words have little meaning. But to people deeply involved in today's rap music and hip-hop world, these are the reasons why two of the rap worlds biggest influences are dead (Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls), sparking a long stemming feud between Death Row Records and Bad Boy Entertainment. What may have started as competitiveness, resulted in two brutal deaths, an industry plagued by scandal, and a police force to blame. To support these shocking clams you need to understand:.
1.) The events leading up to their deaths.
             2.) How these deaths occurred.
3.) The controversy behind them .
Marion "Suge- Knight is the CEO of Death Row records. Sean "Puffy- (now P. Diddy) is the CEO of Bad Boy Entertainment. The feuding between both CEO's seems to stem from disputes that Smalls and Shakur had with each other (www.home.flash.net/~manniac/). Smalls and Shakur argued which coast supported better rappers and which record label was superior. Once considered friends, Shakur's Notoriety soared with the release of his first album "All Eyez on Me-, which was produced by Suge Knight's label, Death Row Records. Shakur signed on with Death Row in exchange for Knight financing an appeal against Shakur's 4 ½-year prison .
             -2.
sentence for sexual abuse against a 19-year old fan (www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-fi-tupac6sep06.story). Considered a traitorous act by Smalls, this started such a rivalry between both rappers, that it ended their friendship. The two entertainers then took to ridiculing each other in public events and in their songs. In one song entitled "Hit Em Up,"" Shakur bragged about having sex with Small's wife, and vowed to kill him (Ibid.). The threats made between both rappers and their labels, lead to a series of assaults and shootings-one of which led to the murder of a Death Row bodyguard in Atlanta Georgia, in 1995 (Ibid.). .
On Sept. 7, 1996, Shakur traveled to Las Vegas to attend a championship-boxing match between Mike Tyson and Bruce Seldon.
