The Day of the Last Rock Fight

Ronnie knew Peter can easily beat up Gene, but he asked him not to do it. Ronnie claimed, "Then he would put one and one together and start out after me seriously." This shown that Ronnie was really selfish and he is a coward because he didn't want to bring himself into trouble. Ronnie and Peter's conversation highlights the peculiarity of their relationship. On the day of the last rock fight, Ronnie listened to the conversation that Peter and Gene had in the bathroom. Gene Hanlon tried to make Peter angry by saying he went out with Angela. Angela is Peter's girlfriend; they had been dating for more than two years already. Peter got really mad, and keeps on turning on and off the hot and cold faucets. Hot symbolizes angry and cold symbolizes clam; thus have shown the struggle and confuse he was having. Ronnie claimed, "There wasn't any more a friend could say to Peter, so I made him let go of the faucets and come with me to eat cafeteria." (page 6) Shown that his decision was not to do anything caused the death of Gene Hanlon by the hand of Peter Irish. He did not suggest that Peter talk to Angela to confirm what Gene Hanlon have said. After the conversation in the bathroom, they went down to have cafeteria lunch together. He did not discourage Peter from participating the Rock Fight. By remaining passive, Ronnie Quiller was responsible for the murder of Gene Hanlon and the suicide of Peter Irish. Ronnie had the ability for moral decisions and therefore is accountable for those decisions; which can save both Gene and Peter.
Ronnie missed opportunities during the rock fight, to prevent Gene's death. The students spread out into two teams, Union Army and Confederates. Then each team spread up with scouting parties, assault patrols and also patrols. The students cannot use any rocks that are bigger than a hazelnut, and also they pegged one at a guy in the opposite army, they have to 'chk, chk' with their mouth so that the people would have a chance to find where it s was coming from and duck in time.
