Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery

When slavery was abolished on January 1 1863, many were focused on the importation, distribution and ownership of African People. Who would have thought that by banishing slavery a more specific type of trade would arise with many of the same attributes? Human trafficking is modern day slavery selling human beings, mostly women, into the sex trade of the world. .
             Human Trafficking.
In a rough estimate, the human trafficking business generates roughly $32 billion dollars a year. Although some may say in the business to rise to a sense of power, almost all people that are trafficked have their freedom taken from them and transported illegally across international borders to be sold into the sex trade. The U.S. Department of State estimated that between 14,500 and 17,500 people are transported in, and out of the United States from foreign countries. They also claim that over 4 million people are trafficked around the world every year. Even with laws, fines and jail time, and even task forces specifically set up to target human trafficking, it has still become a worldwide problem that has yet to be controlled. .
There are many things to be taken into consideration when discussing the victims of human trafficking, such as poverty, broken homes, and mostly corruption. Leading the pact is poverty due to the lack of education and employment making the sale of something readily available, such as your body or your child more enticing. Traffickers attack the weaknesses of the poor by promising better economic opportunities and better lifestyles for them and their families. A majority of the victims that are from the United States are disaffected, runaways or children that are casted out. .
Corruption and organized crime applies more to the trafficking aspect of the human trafficking business. This is where law enforcement officers would be bribed so people can be transported human beings or they can look the other way when a known brothel is on their patrol route.
