The Injustice of Human Trafficking


            Human trafficking is a modern day phenomenon that is affecting the world on an international level. Another names for human trafficking is "tracking in persons" (TIP). A formal definition of what actual human trafficking encompasses is "The recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of persons, by means of the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of deception, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person, for the purpose of exploitation. Exploitation shall include, at a minimum, the exploitation of the prostitution of others or other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labor or services, slavery or practices similar to slavery, servitude or the removal of organs."(www1.salvationarmy.org/) Basically, human trafficking is the new version of slavery. There are two forms of human trafficking, which are sex trafficking and labor trafficking. Dealing with the injustice of human trafficking a myriad of factors come into play. Most of the people that are taken by the traffickers are young children, woman and teenagers. They usually target people who are helpless are aren't able to defend themselves in the situation. Traffickers have an inhumane mindset and exploit humans to make a gain for themselves. A study was shown on how many people are trafficked about the world from the International Labor Organization. About 20.9 million people are victims of the human trafficking, in the modern day. From those 20.9 million people being trafficking, they believe about 17,500 are being trafficked into the US.
             Human trafficking is a major social injustice that is occurring worldwide. The human trafficking trade is not only affecting the United States but also a plethora of other countries. In our current criminal system we have a set of laws that punish anyone who deals with the human trafficking trade.
